Essential first steps for new den leaders and pack committee members

Getting Started as a Leader
Welcome to the Pack 261 leadership team! This guide will help you get oriented and ready to lead.
Step 1: Complete Your Training
All registered leaders must complete:
- Youth Protection Training (YPT) — Required within 30 days of registration. Complete at my.scouting.org
- Position-Specific Training — Den Leader Essentials or Pack Committee training depending on your role
- Hazardous Weather Training — Required for camping activities
Step 2: Register on my.Scouting.org
- Create or update your account at my.scouting.org
- Accept your leadership position invitation from the Cubmaster
- Set up your training profile
Step 3: Join Communication Channels
- Pack GroupMe/Email List — Ask the Cubmaster to add you
- Den Leader Chat — Coordination between dens
- Google Drive — Shared resources folder (link in Resources section)
Step 4: Review Key Documents
- Pack Charter and bylaws
- Annual program plan
- Budget overview
- BSA Guide to Safe Scouting
Step 5: Meet Your Den
As a Den Leader:
- Review your scouts’ advancement records in Scoutbook
- Schedule your first den meeting (coordinate with the pack calendar)
- Connect with families to introduce yourself
